Penrith's premiership charge has received a massive boost, with Isaah Yeo a chance to play again this year after avoiding surgery on his pectoral injury.
Yeo had been at risk of missing the rest of the NRL season after he left the field in Friday's loss to the Warriors, in what shaped as a major blow for the Panthers.
But Penrith medical staff confirmed on Monday the club's co-captain would not go under the knife following scans, and can begin rehabilitation in a bid to play again in 2026.
The news will also likely come as a relief to Australia coach Kevin Walters, with Yeo expected to again lead the Kangaroos at the World Cup if he avoids later surgery.
Former Panther Apisai Koroisau missed just one week with a pectoral injury early this year, as opposed to the 10 weeks usually out if surgery is required.
Penrith have made a habit of having players play through injury to be part of premiership wins throughout their dynasty.
Almost half of their squad were walking wounded through the first title of their four-peat in 2021, which the club compared to climbing Mount Everest.
Halves Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary both played through persistent shoulder issues in 2023 and 2024 respectively, with both requiring surgery afterwards.
Had Yeo been sidelined it would have been a monumental blow to the first-placed Panthers, given the role he plays in both attack and defence at lock.
Ex-Panther Spencer Leniu described Yeo as the "heartbeat" of Penrith's team over the weekend, declaring his injury would be a "massive loss" for the club.
Penrith face Leniu's Sydney Roosters in a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash on Thursday night, which Yeo would not be expected to play in.
