Josie Baff has backed up her Winter Olympics gold medal with a runner-up performance in the World Cup snowboard cross event in Austria.

The 23-year-old, who became Olympic champion in Italy last month, won both her quarter-final and semi-final in Montafon but was relegated to silver spot in the medal race.

Switzerland’s Sina Siegenthaler pulled ahead of Baff in the second half of the course to win the event with Great Britain’s Charlotte Bankes claiming bronze.

The result was the 17th podium finish of her career.

The second placing sees the Jindabyne gun move to third in the overall World Cup standings with one race remaining for the season, in Mont‑Sainte‑Anne in Canada, on March 28

With 339 points, Baff trails Crystal Globe leader Bankes, who has 373 points and France’s Lea Casta (360).

In other Australian results, Mia Clift finished 11th and Abbey Wilson placed 18th, while Adam Lambert was 17th and James Johnstone 29th in the men’s event.

Lambert has dropped back from first to third in the overall standings behind France’s Aidan Chollet in second on 354, with Germany’s Leon Ulbricht leading on 354.
