Commonwealth Bank says it has restored services after an outage overnight stopped customers from making payments, viewing balances or using its Netbank website.

Issues for customers began about 9pm AEDT on Tuesday. Service to the CommBank app and Netbank was restored by 1.10am on Wednesday, with all services restored by 7am, CBA said on Wednesday.

CBA said ATMs and cash withdrawals were available during the outage but some limits applied.

Debit and credit cards also continued to work but there were delays in some payments to customers at other financial institutions, CBA said.

Australia's largest bank apologised to customers for the outage in a social media post.
