
After being crowned with the pinnacle of Australian music awards, Amyl and the Sniffers' frontwoman and self-appointed leader of the nation had some announcements.
"As the new prime minister of Australia, I would like to say: all immigrants welcome. I'd like to say land back, the dole's going up, and every pub gets a million dollars," Amy Taylor said after the band won the ARIA album of the year.
The Melbourne-based hard rockers opened their night winning the first ARIA award for best group, adding best cover and best rock album, before closing the ceremony with the album of the year gong.

"What a massive night, what a crazy time. This album has really changed all of our lives, like, oh my God. Probably won't have to work at IGA ever again," Taylor said.
Australian DJ and producer Dom Dolla was another big winner, picking up two gongs at the Sydney event on Wednesday.
Despite performing to more than 30,000 people in two sold-out shows at Madison Square Gardens in the United States, he admitted he was anxious accepting an ARIA award.
"I get quite nervous talking in front of people that aren't dancing, so forgive me," he said after winning the gong for best dance/electronic release.
"I heard that Aussies consume more dance music than anyone per capita on earth, so this is really, really special to me."

"I played birthday parties, in bowling alleys, and it's all the f***ing same," he said.
"Don't worry about the destination. You've just got to really, really enjoy it, and you might be really, really surprised where you end up."
Indie producer Ninajirachi picked up three awards, including best independent release, breakthrough artist and best solo artist for her inaugural album I Love My Computer.
"We are independent, and we're a very small team going up against a lot of big dogs, so I didn't know if I would win anything tonight," she said.

Legendary Sydney rock band You Am I, which emerged in the 1990s with a distinctive garage grit and power pop hooks, was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.
Frontman Tim Rogers became emotional during his speech while speaking about the band's inaugural drummer and brother Jaimee, who formed the group.
"Thirty-six years ago, I was extremely sick and had no prospect to do anything, and my brother and my best friend asked me to join their band, and it gave me a life," he said.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese paid tribute to the band, which he said had added to “who we are” with their truth, wit and vulnerability.
Indigenous artist Thelma Plum won best pop release for her album I'm Sorry, Now Say It Back, telling the audience winning the award felt like a “fever dream” after having worked in the industry for more than 13 years.

Taylor Swift made an appearance after winning best international artist for the third year running.
