Geelong favourite son Corey Enright is heading back to where his AFL playing and coaching career began.
The six-time All-Australian defender will leave St Kilda to work under Cats supremo Chris Scott as an assistant coach for the 2027 season.
Enright was once viewed as a potential successor to Ross Lyon at the Saints, where he spent three seasons as a backline coach and two heading up game plan and strategy.
"I'm incredibly grateful to have worked alongside so many high calibre coaches, players and staff during my five seasons at St Kilda," the 45-year-old said in a statement on Monday.
"While this was a difficult decision, I believe the time is right for my next professional challenge and the opportunity to continue to develop my coaching philosophy."
The 332-gamer and three-time premiership Cat has been billed as a possible senior coach in waiting.
Enright lost out to Josh Fraser for Carlton's senior coaching role and was linked to Melbourne's vacant top job in 2025 before withdrawing from the race.
His name has also been thrown into the mix in North Melbourne's search for a "modern coach" to replace Alastair Clarkson following his sacking with a year to run on his contract.
After retiring in 2016, Enright worked in the Cats' development program and was appointed an assistant coach before leaving for the Saints.
Geelong premiership teammate Andrew Mackie said the Cats were excited to have Enright return to the club and join their experienced coaching group.
"Over the past five years, Corey has continued to develop and broaden his coaching experience across a range of roles," the Geelong football boss said.
"He has a proven ability to build strong relationships, along with an outstanding understanding of the game.
"We look forward to the impact Corey will have on our football program as we turn our attention to 2027."
Geelong have already executed an off-season coup after bowing out with a gallant semi-final loss to Fremantle, with former GWS captain Toby Greene joining the club as an unrestricted free agent.
Rowan Marshall is also seeking a trade, a year after Geelong tried to lure the experienced ruckman out of St Kilda.
