Legal teams for the ABC and a casual radio host fired after sharing a social media post critical of Israel will try convince a court that an unlawful dismissal case should fail or succeed.

Antoinette Lattouf was recruited to host the Mornings show on ABC Radio Sydney for five days from Monday to Friday in December 2023.

However, the 41-year-old was let go following three days on air after sharing an Instagram post by Human Rights Watch saying Israel used starvation as a "weapon of war" in Gaza.

She went after the ABC in the Fair Work Commission before escalating the case to the Federal Court which, earlier in February, heard opening submissions and evidence over seven hotly-contested days.

During the hearing, Lattouf herself took the witness stand as did key figures from the public broadcaster including former chair Ita Buttrose and outgoing managing director David Anderson.

The 41-year-old claims she was ousted after pressure from a pro-Israel lobbyist group sent swathes of complaints to the ABC.

The ABC denies this, saying she was let go after failing to obey a direction not to post anything relating to Israel or Gaza while she worked there.

The matter will come back before Justice Darryl Rangiah in the Federal Court on Thursday with the freelance journalist's lawyers commencing their closing arguments about why they claim the ABC breached the law.

This will be followed by submissions from the public broadcaster which has spent $1.1 million in taxpayer funds defending the case.

Former Nine Entertainment chief executive Hugh Marks is set to replace Mr Anderson and will begin a five-year term as ABC managing director in March.
