A man has been charged more than a week after being shot by police outside a Queensland hospital.
The 59-year-old is accused of confronting officers with a knife after they were called to Kingaroy Hospital about 7.30pm on August 9.
"At that point, that male person was shot by police," Southern Region detective superintendent co-ordinator George Marchesini earlier told reporters.
"It was a last resort with no other option in terms of what unfolded."
The man was treated and flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, north of Brisbane.
He remains in hospital undergoing further treatment, police said on Tuesday.
No officers were injured during the incident which is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command and subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
The man has been issued a notice to appear on one count of going armed to cause fear and three counts of serious assault police officer.
He is due to appear at Kingaroy Magistrates Court on October 18.
