Olympic sprint champion Letsile Tebogo says he wants to push his limits as the star attraction at Melbourne's Maurie Plant athletics meet.

Tebogo, who became Botswana's first Olympic gold medallist with victory in the men's 200m in Paris last year, will race over 400m in Melbourne at the March 29 meet.

“Starting the season with this long-distance challenge will set the stage for what’s ahead," he said on Tuesday.

"I’m ready to push my limits and make every moment count.

“I’m excited to compete for the very first time in Australia and open my 2025 season ... I’m looking forward to the electric support of the Australian crowd, let's make it a race to remember."

Tebogo is no stranger to the distance, having also won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics as part of Botswana's 4x400m relay team.

His achievements led to being crowned World Athletics' male athlete of the year.

The 21-year-old is also a 2023 world championships silver medallist over 100m and bronze medallist over 200m in 2023.

Tebogo will be joined in the Victorian capital by compatriots Bayapo Ndori, who also collected silver in Paris in the 4x400m relay, Victor Ntweng and Leungo Scotch.

The Maurie Plant Meet is the first of 13 World Athletics continental tour gold events this year, a rung below the Diamond League in status.
