Emerging Fremantle superstar Murphy Reid has extended his contract with the AFL leaders until the end of the 2032 season.
Fresh off his star turn in the derby, second-year sensation Reid, who was already signed until the end of 2029, has added another three years to his deal in a massive boost for the Dockers.
That should keep Reid firmly out of incoming expansion team Tasmania's clutches and takes the brilliant half-forward/midfielder through to free agency.
Still just 19 - Reid turns 20 on Thursday - the Victorian has lit up the competition in his short career to date, and looms as a potential All-Australian this year, where he has spent more time through the midfield.
"Murphy is really settled in WA, and he’s made some great connections with players, coaches and staff at the club," Fremantle football boss David Walls said.
"With Tasmania joining the competition, there is no doubt he would have been one of the most sought-after targets on their whiteboard, so locking him away long-term is a great outcome for the club.
"The new deal will take him to 2032, which sees him through to free agency.
"Murph’s on-field ability is growing along with his growing connections with teammates. Having another young Victorian re-commit long-term shows how much he is all-in at the club."
Reid joins Caleb Serong (2034), Hayden Young (2033), Andrew Brayshaw (2031), Josh Treacy (2030), Luke Jackson (2030), Judd McVee (2030), Pat Voss (2030) Brennan Cox (2030), Matthew Johnson (2030) and Sean Darcy (2030) on long-term deals.
Reid, pick No.17 in the 2024 draft, booted four goals in a quarter on debut against Geelong, went on to win last year's Rising Star award and has played 43 consecutive games since debuting, kicking 37 goals.
That included a 26-disposal, one-goal performance against West Coast on Friday that made Reid the youngest ever winner of the Glendinning-Allan Medal as best on ground in the derby.
"Murph’s on-field ability is growing along with his growing connections with teammates," Walls said.
"He’s really good at identifying their strengths and how he can best work with them to get the best outcomes for the team.
"His versatility and flexibility to play and learn multiple roles has been really important to us."
