Richmond have poached Melbourne's highly regarded fitness boss as the Tigers attempt to turn around an ailing list of injured players.

After six seasons with the Demons, Selwyn Griffith is switching to Richmond as the club's new high performance manager.

Before joining Melbourne, Griffith was a key part of Brisbane's rise up the ladder in their strength and conditioning department.

Richmond let go of former fitness boss Ben Serpell in July after three seasons at the club.

The Tigers finished the season with 11 players on their injury list and have regularly had key personnel sidelined during Adem Yze's tenure.

Already going through a long rebuild, having experienced players and young talent injured has ensured Richmond have stuck down the bottom of the ladder.

"Selwyn has done a terrific job during his time as performance manager at Melbourne and was also highly regarded for the work he did in Queensland with the Lions and as an osteopath," Tigers football boss Tim Livingstone said.

"Selwyn also, of course, worked closely with Adem during their time at Melbourne, and we are all extremely confident he is someone who will really help our players and us going forward."

Yze would start working immediately and engage with players on their off-season breaks to help them return in good shape.

"Selwyn is amazing at his job," Yze said.

"He is a really smart operator.

"He will get his arms around our boys.

"It is a real key pillar to our football club, and it is at any football club.

"Selwyn has earned his status, he is one of the top high-performance managers in the league."
