Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is facing a three-game suspension after he raised his knees while running into a tackle in the Sydney Roosters' round-14 win over Canterbury.

Suaalii was not cited at the time, despite his right knee making contact with the head of Bulldogs hooker Reed Mahoney on Sunday.

Mahoney went off for a head injury assessment and did not return, ruling him out of next Monday's meeting with his former club Parramatta under the NRL's concussion rules.

Suaalii is set for three weeks on the sidelines owing to his prior history of raising his knees while running into contact.

The Samoa international was handed a caution at last year's Rugby League World Cup and was given a concern act notice by the NRL's match review committee late last year.

If Suaalii fights the charge and loses he will receive a four-game suspension.

North Queensland Cowboys prop Coen Hess has escaped with a fine following his high tackle on Melbourne Storm winger Xavier Coates.
