"Coming to Perth?" was the simple text message Makenzie Weale sent her family to tell them she'd be making her Jillaroos debut.

After shining for North Queensland and in Maroon, the barnstorming forward will now don the green and gold for the first time.

The 24-year-old has been named on the bench for Australia's next match in the World Cup, and is delighted to share the moment with her family.

"My parents had some choice words and said, 'shit yeah'," Weale told AAP.

Her parents and partner have already organised their flights from Brisbane to Perth to be there as Australia takes on England this Saturday.

Singing the anthem in a Jillaroos jersey for the first time will be a proud moment for the entire family.

"It's an exciting time, for anyone when you can sing the anthem for your country and it's definitely something I'll take in with both hands," the Queenslander said.

"I like to think I'm quite good at compartmentalising, so I'll enjoy that while it's happening and then get to work.

"Once I'm out there I kind of settle into it and then get going. Whereas, when I'm on the sideline, I just try and slow my brain so it's not racing too much."

The 26-game NRLW player got her first taste of the Australian camp last year, and it made her all the more hungry for a debut.

"Being here last year made me realise it was a space that I wanted to be in, so very excited and obviously very humbled at the same time with the amazing girls that have worn the jersey," the forward said.

"The level of intensity with their training and how they prepare, it's a different environment when you're with the best of the best.

Playing for Queensland eight times in the State of Origin arena, it's a different feeling when you're teammates with those Blues rivals.

"Last year, I think I was a bit worried (being alongside the Blues) but they all  welcomed me in," Weale admitted.

"Once they kind of got to know me, they realised I wasn't too bad as a Queenslander."

"I think finally stepping into a Jillaroos camp made me realise, yes, Origin may be the pinnacle, but there's something different about representing your country."

The former North Queensland and Newcastle player has just inked a new contract to head further south to represent the Red V of St George Illawarra.

"I'm just a bit up for a bit of a sea change and a bit more of a challenge and, see what I can do down there with some new coaches, new teammates just a new experience," the new Dragon said.
