A doctor accused of sexually abusing five patients remains on bail as negotiations continue with prosecutors and his lawyers.

Ahmed Al-Sudani, 47, is charged with six counts each of rape and indecent assault after his arrest at a medical centre in Arncliffe in Sydney's south in July 2024.

The doctor, who has been banned from acting as a medical practitioner, is accused of molesting five separate female patients.

All of the women have lodged applications for apprehended personal violence orders against him.

The doctor faced a brief hearing at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday, remaining silent and covering his face as he left the court.

He waited inside the court complex for more than two hours before exiting as it closed for the day, wearing a black face mask while on his phone and not answering questions about the allegations or complainants.

Al-Sudani has been out on bail since July 2024 after promising to pay $1 million if he breached any conditions.

His solicitor Abdul Reslen sought an adjournment to allow negotiations to continue with the prosecution.

During these types of discussions, charges can be dropped and pleas can be made.

But it is not known what exactly will happen for Al-Sudani.

His matter will return to court on September 9.
