A Gold Coast man accused of more than 1600 child abuse offences will remain behind bars after his case was mentioned in court.
He is accused of abusing 91 children while working at childcare centres in Brisbane, Sydney and overseas between 2007 and 2022.
The 45-year-old faces 1623 charges, including 136 counts of rape and 110 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10.
He is in custody and did not appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court when his matter was mentioned on Monday.
"There are a very large number of charges," deputy chief magistrate Anthony Gett said.
Crown prosecutor Steven Dickson sought an adjournment until January 24.
"As Your Honour would probably anticipate it is voluminous," he said.
"This is the first mention that the state DPP has had carriage of it. The parties need more time to assess the evidence.
"The brief has largely been provided, there are some small bits of evidence relating to overseas witnesses which the DPP is waiting on.
"Ultimately I am seeking an adjournment perhaps until early in the New Year."
However, Mr Gett replied: "That's over five months."
Mr Gett adjourned the matter for mention on November 6.
The Gold Coast man's arrest came after child abuse photos found by police on the dark web in 2014 were traced to a Brisbane childcare centre last year.
He was initially charged with two counts of making child exploitation material and one count of using a carriage service for child abuse material.
A police search of his home uncovered about 4000 images and videos the man had allegedly created and sparked a painstaking process to identify the alleged victims, all prepubescent girls.
