A man has died two weeks after being bashed in a northern Victorian supermarket, while another waits in custody to have his charges upgraded.
The 46-year-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a reported assault in a supermarket in Mooroopna, near Shepparton on May 22.
Local detectives charged a 19-year-old Shepparton man, believed to be known to the victim, with a series of assault and drug offences, including intentionally causing a serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing a serious injury, assault by kicking, trafficking cannabis and dealing with suspected proceeds of crime.
The victim later died in hospital on Monday.
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and police say the charges will be reviewed.
The teenager remains in custody and will appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on October 3.
