Emergency services are working to recover the body of one person believed to be stuck in a submerged vehicle at a popular fishing spot in the Northern Territory.

Police received reports on Thursday afternoon that a car carrying two people crashed into the water at Six Pack Creek Boat Ramp in Dundee Downs.

One person managed to get out of the car before it sank while the other is believed still trapped.

The vehicle remained underwater, and water police and major crash units are investigating.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said road blocks were in place and urged anyone with any information to contact police.

“This is a complex recovery effort and NT Police are yet to confirm a person remains in the vehicle," he said.
