Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli stepped into a Perth cafe this week to buy arch enemy Toby Greene a coffee - welcome to the crazy new world of State of Origin.
Bontempelli and Greene have been at loggerheads for years now, with their fiery exchange in a 2019 AFL elimination final at the heart of it.
During that on-field incident, Greene tugged at Bontempelli's hair and appeared to eye gouge the star midfielder during a scuffle.
The GWS skipper was considered lucky to escape with a fine for that incident, but there has been bad blood between them ever since.
The pair's feelings towards each other will air on Prime Video later this month in the four-part docuseries titled Final Siren: Inside the AFL.
In a sneak peak that has already been released, Bontempelli declared: "He's an antagonist. Any time there's a bit of a scrap, Toby's in the thick of it. It's one of those things you do take personally."
When asked if he got along with Bontempelli, Greene laughed: "I would never have a beer with him".
But it seems all has been forgotten, with the pair not sharing a beer - but rather a coffee - in Perth this week as they prepare to line up as teammates for Victoria.
Bontempelli revealed Greene had reached out to him after the airing of that clip to clear the air.
"He followed up quite quickly after it, which was great, (to say) that his words had been sort of somewhat twisted or misconstrued, and that's not accurate to what he said," Bontempelli said in Perth on Friday.
"And that was obviously good because it allowed us to clear the air a little bit before then spending a good week together.
"I even had to buy him a coffee the other day. So that was probably a sign of how far things have come in our relationship."
Bontempelli, Victoria's captain, said the Origin experience had allowed players to get to know each other better.
"What this experience does is allow you to probably break down some of those walls that you have up, probably throughout the season or just over history," Bontempelli said.
"So like with Toby and the rest of the boys that I don't really know all that well off the field, that's been an awesome experience.
"And I know Gaz (chairman of selectors Garry Lyon) was quite parochial about that experience.
"There's not just a game to play, but the opportunity to mix and spend time with other players who you only really know a little bit.
"It has been really valuable."
